Setting Up Security Key in macOS, Linux

• Registering, changing, and deleting PINs on macOS and Linux requires the Chrome browser. 

• The Security Key’s PIN: Enhancing FIDO2 Authentication</strong >

• A PIN is needed for FIDO2 passwordless authentication (not required for U2F).

• A PIN works like a password but functions differently. While a password is shared with the server for verification, a PIN remains private between the user and the security key. Instead of being sent to the server, PIN verification happens directly on the device, enhancing security.

• To enhance security and minimize the risk of unauthorized access, users are advised to create a strong PIN that includes a mix of digits and letters.

Setup PIN

1. Using the Chrome browser, sign in your Google Account and ①Press the [More()] button and click ‘Settings’, then ②Select [Privacy and Security] ③Select [Security]

2. Click [Manage security keys] in bottom of the page.

3. Choose [Create a PIN].

4. When you insert the PUFido security key into the USB port, the LED indicator flashes. Then, press the confirm button on the security key.

5. Enter the security key PIN in field ①, and then re-enter the PIN in fields ②. After then click [Save] button to complete the PIN creation. (It is recommended to use 4~63 alphanumeric characters, upper and lower letters, numbers, and special characters)

6. Click the [OK] button to complete the PIN creation.

Change PIN

1. Using the Chrome browser, sign in your Google Account and ①Press the [More()] button and click ‘Settings’ – ②Select [Privacy and Security] ③Select [Security]

2. Click [Manage security keys].

3. Choose [Create a PIN].

4. When you insert the PUFido security key into the USB port, the LED indicator flashes. Then, press the confirm button on the security key.

5. Enter the security key PIN in field ①, and then enter the new security key PIN in fields ② and ③ below, and click the [Save] button to complete the ‘Change your security key PIN’

Reset PIN

1. Using the Chrome browser, sign in your Google Account and ①Press the [More()] button and click ‘Settings’ – ②Select [Privacy and Security] ③Select [Security]

2. Click [Manage security keys] in bottom of the page.

3. Choose [Reset your security key]

4. Insert the PUFido security key into the USB port and press the confirm button when the LED flashes.

5. Click the [OK] button to confirm the deletion of all data stored in the security key.

Key Unlock Reminders

1. When the user fails to type the correct PIN Eight times consecutively. The User needs to pull out and reinsert the security key and type the correct PIN.

2. If the user types the incorrect PIN for the last time, the security key is locked. If the security key is completely locked, press the [OK] button to return to the previous step.

3. Click [Reset your security key] to initialize the security key, and then proceed with the security key PIN registration process.
